Benefits of Using Submersible Pumps
October 9, 2015
A prospective customer doesn't need to be an engineer to hazard a guess at the function of a submersible pump. The label is amiably explaining its function to the masses, illustrating its purpose as a machine that works below a fluid. We're tempted to say water, which is a primary function of this handy pump, but submersibles are actually designed to function under a number of liquids. Imagine a motorized pump a few feet below a pool of liquefied effluent, sucking the foul material towards pipes and away to a sewage processing plant. There's also the aforementioned water pumps, devices that move freshwater or waste run-off. As to the benefits that come with this type of pump, please read on.
Assessing the Benefit of Submersible Pumps
Fluid dynamics is a science that's understood by elite scientists and design engineers. It's also a factor that ranks highly when selecting one of these waterproof pumps. For example, this type of pump is located where all the action is, right down at the bottom of a well or a swimming pool vent. This makes the pumping process that much easier because the pumping action takes place at the point where the fluid meets the bottom of the container, whether that's a vessel of some kind or a simple water reservoir. On the other hand, if the motor and its pump are placed at the surface, the impeller has to be attached to lengths of pipe, and this network of tubing has to stretch down and awkwardly suck the fluid out. Quite simply, it takes less energy when the submersible form is employed. Additionally, submersible pumps are already weatherproof and sealed to a certain depth. No liquid can get past the tough plastic or the robust stainless steel housing.
Submersible Functionality for Every Application
Self-primed and ready to snap into action as soon as the water level rises, there's a seemingly endless array of submersible pumps to choose from. Lower powered variants pump fresh water into swimming pools and storage tanks. Slightly larger models take care of flooding in basements, and larger versions are dropped into nasty concrete wells full of semi-solid effluent waste, pumping the germ-ridden mess toward large-diameter pipes that terminate at a sewage facility. There's even a special class of submersible fuel pumps, but every one of these models uses a similar motor, though single-phase and three-phase inputs dictate the torque available from each one.
