The Negative Effects of a Poorly Maintained Pool Pump

May 31, 2022

Almost every house in the neighbourhood has a pool and a lanai. During the summer days, these extra parts of the house are a great place to cool off, and the area around the pool is a great place for friends and family to get together to grill out, celebrate birthdays, have adult parties, and more. If you've had a pool for a while, you know how much time it can take to keep it in good shape. Even though taking care of a pool may take a lot of time, not doing it right can have terrible results. We've gone over some of the problems that can happen if you don't take care of your pool properly.

Algae Growth and Motor Damage in the Filtration System

One of the most essential elements of any swimming pool is the primary filtration system. If this filter is not cleaned properly, algae may grow on it, and the water flow may become restricted; both of these issues may result in insufficient filtration, and the pool motor may even become damaged. No matter what kind of filter you have in your pool—a cartridge filter, a sand filter, or a diatomaceous earth filter—it will need to be cleaned regularly to keep the water clear. Depending on the type of filter and how often you use your pool or spa, you might have to clean the filter once a month, three or four times a year, or even more often.

However, contrary to popular belief, cleaning the filter more frequently does not really help because it slows the filtering process. A slightly dirty filter is more efficient because the dirt particles trapped in it can also help remove debris from the water faster. This should only be done before any obvious drop in water quality.

Damaged Gasket and Visible Water Leak

A pool pump requires little maintenance. Pumps are self-priming, so they don't need to be filled with water before use. The strainer basket, however, must be cleaned weekly. To access the basket, remove the pump housing's top; consult the owner's handbook for its position.

While checking the basket, inspect the pump housing's O-ring or gasket. Replace a cracked or degraded cover; otherwise, the pump won't work. Severe pump issues, such as a visible water leak, may necessitate professional help.

Poor Pool Chemical Level

They have the potential to cause pain for swimmers if they are not measured correctly. In addition to this, they are designed to effectively sanitise the water to reduce the likelihood that someone will become ill. These chemicals protect the actual structure of your pool from deterioration by inhibiting corrosion.

Low Water Level

Maintaining constant vigilance of the water level in your pool is essential. Evaporation under the scorching Australian sun can cause the water level in your pool to drop significantly. If the water level in your pool dips below the level of the skimmer, your pool pump may begin to filter air instead of water if the situation persists. This has the potential to cause severe problems with your pool pump in the long run. It is best to always keep the water of your pool at the desired level to prevent this from happening.
